No High-Temperature Radiation: LED UV Curing Keeps Electroplated & Coated Parts From Discoloration and Gloss Loss
News 2026-10-11
When processing electroplated metal parts, painted shells and surface-coated workpieces with UV glue or UV ink, surface quality is the core of product qualification. Even if the adhesive or ink is fully cured, any color shift or gloss loss on the coating will directly turn qualified products into rejects, bringing huge losses to the production line.
Most old production lines still use traditional mercury UV curing lamps. Mercury lamps release large amounts of infrared thermal radiation alongside ultraviolet light. The workpiece surface will quickly heat up when passing through the lamp area. For electroplated layers, thin paint films and functional coatings, sudden heat impact will trigger chemical changes on the surface. Common defects include yellowing, dark discoloration, blushing, and the loss of mirror or matte gloss. Once these problems appear, there is no simple way to restore the original surface finish, and the whole batch of products may have to be scrapped.

Our LED UV curing solution solves this pain point fundamentally. Different from mercury lamps, LED UV light sources only output the targeted ultraviolet wavelength required for curing, with almost no infrared high-temperature radiation. During the whole curing process, the heat acting on the workpiece surface is extremely low. The electroplated layer, metal plating finish and organic coating will not be damaged by thermal shock.
The uniform UV light output ensures full curing of UV ink and UV adhesive, while keeping the substrate surface at a low temperature. Whether it is bright chrome plating, nickel plating, vacuum electroplating plastic parts, or thin anti-scratch coating, decorative painted coating, the original color and surface gloss can be well preserved after curing.
This advantage brings clear benefits to mass production. Factories no longer need to slow down the conveyor speed to reduce heat exposure, and there is no extra cooling station required after curing. The reject rate caused by surface discoloration and gloss fading drops significantly. It works well for 3C decorative components, hardware electroplated accessories, automotive coated parts and cosmetic packaging plating products.
For manufacturers focusing on high surface appearance standards, switching to non-thermal-radiation LED UV curing equipment is an effective way to stabilize product quality and cut production waste. It balances perfect curing performance with the protection of delicate electroplated and coated surfaces.
