Among the many advantages of LED UV curing machine lamps, the service life of ultraviolet (UV) lamps is certainly a standout feature—one well-known to professionals in the UV curing industry. Let’s take a look at the comparison of service lives across different types of UV lamps.
UV lamps are not limited to those using mercury lamps as light sources; there are also halogen lamp-based and LED-based UV lamps. The service life varies significantly depending on the light source. Among these three types, the service life in ascending order is: mercury lamps < halogen lamps < LED lamps.

Mercury lamp-based UV lamps: Their effective service life does not exceed 1,000 hours. Beyond this threshold, the lamp’s performance degrades sharply—light decay accelerates, energy consumption increases, and overall curing efficiency drops significantly. Therefore, when the usage time approaches 1,000 hours, a noticeable decline in performance will be observed. It is recommended to replace the lamp promptly to minimize losses and maintain operational efficiency.
Halogen lamp-based UV lamps: Their typical service life is 8,000 hours, representing a substantial improvement compared to mercury lamp-based UV lamps.
LED-based UV lamps: Boasting a service life of 20,000 hours, these lamps utilize LED chips, which are inherently energy-efficient. As diode light-emitting devices, their light-emitting principle differs fundamentally from that of mercury and halogen lamps—this is the key reason for their exceptionally long service life.
