LED UV Curing Machine Manufacturers Explain UV Safety and Protection Issues
News 2026-01-06
As a manufacturer of LED UV curing machines, we are committed to producing safer and more reliable LED UV curing machines. To enable more customers to use our equipment safely and effectively, we will discuss UV protection from several aspects:
I. The Relationship Between UV Intensity and Distance
Generally, intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance. Therefore, staying at a certain distance away from the light source to avoid direct exposure is an effective protection measure. Of course, the most scientific method is to use a radiometer for measurement. When the measured value is less than 1 mW/cm², we consider it a safe environment.

II. UV Reflection Analysis
Visible light is well reflected on most surfaces, which is why we see colors.
UV light has poor reflectivity on most surfaces (generally <10% of the light is reflected).
Some surfaces, such as glass and aluminum, reflect UV light well.
Radiometers are needed to measure reflectivity and actual UV exposure.
Dark work surfaces should be used as much as possible to reduce the reflection of visible light and UV.
III. LED UV Curing Machine Protection
The following materials can be used as UV protection materials:
Metals: Aluminum, steel, stainless steel, etc. (painted black or electroplated)
Hard plastics or glass: Transparent or translucent UV-blocking acrylates, polycarbonates, etc.
Soft films: UV-blocking orange, soft polyurethane films for transparent protection.
IV. Personal Protection
Strongly recommended: Operators should wear UV-blocking protective glasses when operating UV curing equipment! It may even be necessary to formulate process flow or rules and regulations for this purpose.
Recommended: Workers should wear opaque, UV-blocking work clothes and gloves when exposed to UV light on the skin.
Habit : Avoid direct UV exposure to the skin and eyes; use a radiometer to design UV curing procedures to ensure that workers’ UVA exposure is below 1 m.
